Romane Garelli
All About Me!
Creative Writing
Romane was born on the 8th of March of the year 2004 under a family named Garelli. Her family lived through generations of a growing business in one of the largest cities in the South of France. During WW2 the Garelli’s owned a small farm in which they’d sell peaches to the local market and grew their business into a construction company. Romane and Chiara’s father devoted his life into making his father proud and growing his business which he successfully achieved. Romane remembered her fathers stories of how he got his first call for a construction site to be built. He would tell this story with such pride and never missed a detail. The day Joe got his first job offer since his father passed was from a Jewish man in his hometown that needed to fix his balcony. Joe would smile as he remembered the happiness he felt that day, “I was so overwhelmed with joy, I punched my fist into a wall” he’d laugh at the irony of it. Her father would slowly speak to her about work as she grew older and the two sisters would listen to his stories hoping to become just like him one day. As Romane and her sister grew older, they’d quickly become fond of each other and built a strong connection through their father. Growing up, the two sisters would fight but always remained close to one another and relied upon each other. Chiara had a maternal instinct the moment Romane was born as it came naturally to protect her younger sister. She’d always make sure Romane had a smile on her face no matter the circumstances. She’d make her sister’s school lunch, try to help her with her homework (although that didn’t do much for her grades), and would always plan something special during festivities. Christmas was her specialty when it came to surprising her younger sister. Like any American clichés Christmas movie, the Garelli house was big on family gatherings around the table with way too much food. The only twist is that they are French, so arguments were the usual during festivities. Most people would find that quite sad but to the Garelli sisters, it was a time where their bond became stronger than ever. Chiara and her younger sibling would run up into their rooms with coordinated pajamas they’d bought the previous day and presents slipping through their hands. Once they were in their safe space, Chiara would recreate what’d you typically see in all Christmas movies; hot chocolates drowning from the marshmallows, presents that crowded the room and joy and laughter. That was us living in our own little bubble. During those times, nothing else mattered but what we’d decided on what was our little ‘American dream’. Times like these are what made me so fond of her, up to this day she manages to find the good in the bad and that is what I try to do too. We’ve now grown older and continue to argue, but it doesn’t really matter because we still live together. In the same bubble we built when we were younger. That is the true meaning of a sister.
